Music help
« on: March 26, 2015, 12:12:37 pm »
I finaly picked up my new ride yesterday. I got a 2014 Strat Delux (holdover) and I'm having a little trouble with the audio settings. The documentation that comes with the GPS suck out loud. So far, here are the issues I'm having.
  • I'm an Android user, so I can't just plug into the iPod connector
  • I got my phone to connect (via bluetooth) to the GPS for phone, but not for audio
  • I borrowed an iPod touch, which I did get to connect and play, but it didn't link over to the GPS so I could see what was playing.  Is it suposed to do that?

So am I doing anything wrong? Is there an addaptor that will let me use my android and still use the remote for volume and track control?

Thanks guys!

    Come to the dark side...

     ;D ;D ;D

I'm not sure your gonna like the answer.  The bike uses a Garmin GPS, which does not use A2DP for streaming music like your phone does.  You can hook your phone to the GPS to make a call, but not play your music.

The cables from the GPS and the 30Pin from the apple device are switched to the mini amp in the fairing.  The info from whats playing on the iPod will not show on the screen of the GPS.

There is a cable you can buy that will replace the 30Pin connector with a mini jack to plug into the headphone port of your Android phone.  You will be able to use Volume control, but you can't advance tracks.

Well crap you are thinking, what can I do?  Best option is to look into a CableJive Bluetooth connector.  This device will plug into the 30pin connector and then allows you to connect your phone via bluetooth.   Then go an buy you a mount (RAM makes some water proof ones if you are interested) and then run you a power port.  Plug your phone into the power port to charge and use the phone itself for your display screen and to change tracks.

    RAM Aquabox

    Hope that helps.

Another option is to add a micro-SD card to the Garmin with all of the MP3 music you like.  You will be able to see what is playing on the Garmin, and your eyes are very sharp, you'll see what is going to play next (fine print).  You will be able to control advancing forward or backward via the Garmin.

Yet, another option: There is a Cable Jive cable set that you can get that will connect to the ipod connector.  It comes with 30pin connector, 3.5mm audio cable (to plug into your phone's audio jack) and a  USB-to-MicroUSB cable (to plug into you phone for charging).

Here's the down side:  My Galaxy S5 (5.5 inch long) fits into the ipod compartment with 3/4 inch to spare.  When I plug in the USB cable (on phone bottom side), it does not fit in the compartment (1/4 inch too long).  When I plug in the audio cable (top side), it fits snugly.  Perhaps, if you can find these cables with a 45 elbow, maybe the phone would fit with both cables connected.

Otherwise, using this cable set, after plugging to 30pin connector, you can run these cables to your handlebar mounted phone.  The Cable Jive Bluetooth device sounds good, but I'm sure you want power as well.  You've got options.

    Hope this helps, somewhat.

Here's an option. Go on ebay and buy an Fourth Generation iPod Nano or one with the 30 pin connector. I have that one. You can get them for like 40 bucks used. Then everything will work perfect. You can then do a factory reset.

Thanks for the input guys. I think I'm going to go with the bluetooth adapter for when I want to stream Pandora, and the SD card for my owned music.
The Nano isn't a bad idea (and o e I had considered ), but this saves me from my own personal hell that is iTunes.

So that last post was me. Apparently the Taptalk app used a different login for me (one that I don't remember making ) and won't let me change.
    App deleted.

...my own personal hell that is iTunes.

ROFLOL!!  God, don't cha know it...I absolutely HATE iTunes!!

You would think that the people who brought us a phone and tablet that do everything (intuitively -- no manuals needed), and great computers and laptops would be able to come up with something better than iTunes!!  I refuse to use it in any way, shape, or form.

    P.s.
I used to use TAPATALK for all my forums, then they changed it and now it totally sucks.  Deleted app as well.

Too much greed controlling music these days to keep it simple.

As to music I added a Fusion AM/FM/Aux radio to the fairing with an amp and Kicker speakers. I got rid off all the Yammy audio equipment including their amp and handle bar controls. The GPS is hard wire connected to the Fusion head unit thru it's aux input via a 3.5mm to RCA adapter cable. I was planning to use blue tooth for music from the GPS but it, the Garmin 665 a $700.00 GPS, wouldn't connect via blue tooth. It's not compatible .... 2 phones worked fine though. Decided to leave out the blue tooth module completely.
