That Honda is a nice looking bike. The dealership where I got my SD has 4 of them sitting on the showroom floor. Three black, one red. Didn't care to much for the color red.

Im new on here and was reading about this lifter noise , I was glad that I`m not the only one experiencing this. I had my lifters replaced last august just before my warrenty expired and this quieted my bike down for almost two weeks, now it makes more noise than it did before I had it worked on. My dealer is telling me that these sounds are normal and that it can`t be a lifter issue because they have already been changed. I changed from the amsoil I was using to vavolene 20 50 motorcycle oil , and it didn`t make a lot of difference. Im afraid to ride at highway speeds because me motor makes more noise than my exhaust. They keep telling me there is nothing wrong with it. Should I contact yamaha with my concerns even though my bike is out of warrenty , or am I on my own with this one. I have been riding Yamahas since 1980 and have never had an issue till now.

Wow That dose not sound right, Did the dealer show you the replaced lifters. How many miles since they were done have you put on the bike. Did you see your motor actually opened up for the lifter replacement. I think the dealer might have to back in. That dose not sound right, very sorry to hear it. And I have no clue, as to what could be wrong.  8)

Yes , They did show me the bike in various stages of disassembly , over the month they had it , I also have the recipt showing the work they performed. I hate to make waves , this dealership has always bent over backwards to take care of me ( I`ve bought 7 new vehicles from them over the last several years). I don`t understand how they can say this is normal. I guess Ill make a call to yamaha and see what they have to say. To answer your question when they replaced the lifters my bike had 4979 miles on the odometer , and I just turned over 7000 this past weekend , so just over 2000 miles since the replacements.

Nothing saying the lifters they put back in are from a bad batch as well. If you bought that many bikes from them I would hesitate to ride them to replace them again.
    Just my 2 cents

Yea, thats not right, and do not trust anyone who tells you its normal.  Call Yamaha if you must.  I understand you not wanting to make waves with a dealer you have been loyal to, but it does not sound like they are being loyal to you.  Telling you that is normal is a cop out.  Take it back to them and tell them that if one of their showroom bikes not not sound like yours then its not normal.  Call Corporate if you have to, but do not take "its normal" for an answer.

Mike, thanks for the reply. But it still sounds like they did something wrong. PM 120 with questions, if anyone around hear knows what you should expect , its him.  8)
