Somewhere to go!
« on: April 22, 2015, 01:46:14 am »
Alright everyone....I'm debating on a trip, possibly solo for memorial day weekend.  I was thinking maybe Austin Texas or possibly Louisiana.  I might fly but, I have never done a solo road trip either.  Thoughts?

Well, Denver to Austin is 900+ miles, with Pueblo, Amarillo, Lubbock, Abilene, and a lot of vacant space in between.

    What's your goal?

From where you are, I'd head down to Albuquerque then ride historic Route 66 out to LA.

    - Straight out to the Cali coast near L.A. would be about 900 miles...long a$$ ride!

    - 8 hours north is YellowStone Natl Park

    - a ton of crap right in Colorado

Yeah, I'm ambitious like that.  Could always cut the Albuquerque - west leg almost in half and break off and head to Vegas.

Funny how the guys that live in, and ride regularly, in the Rockies are looking elsewhere while the rest of us are trying to figure out how to get out there and ride.

    There's not very much of Route 66 left - It's mostly I 40 now

    There're secondary roads that parallel.

Silverton, Moab to SW Utah/Zion NP has some awesome roads.

It's a long-butt boring ride across northwest Texas...

So the main goal is to get the hell out of town for a few days and go to a kick butt city.  Im just in need of an adventure.  The rockies this time of year can be very unpredictable with snow and there is so much traffic up there now that holiday weekend travel can be more stress than fun.  I figured south would be the best direction to head

Know this is a little  old but riding season is ramping up! !!!!!!  But the following  states are great for riding. Tennessee, Kentucky, North Carolina, But my favorite to date is West Virginia bare none...This state is a hidden gem when it comes to riding. All the law enforcement  that I have come across  in this state a very bike friendly. .In most areas  your riding in shade  or beside cool rivers. ..The southern  parts of the state is my favorite. The state might be a butt of a lot of jokes ,but riding  it on a motorcycle is no laughing matter........

I'm with you, BC.  WV is, by far, my favorite state to ride!  WV 28 from US 33 down to WV 39 is spectacular!  I have yet to make it down to the southern part but am hoping to this season!
