Who here has heated grips?
« on: November 16, 2016, 11:48:16 am »
How do you like them? Worth it? I'd really love to find some in a ISO or Avon grip style but having trouble. Avon used to make some but looks like they've been discontinued. Do I have an options?

I've often read that Avon's heated grips were made for them by Heat Demons so you may want to check what they offer.

As for heated grips being worth it, I think so.  I have them on my Victory and use them fairly often especially in fall like this. I have heated gloves too but but the heated grips are always on the bike and it's nice to be able to warm your hands any time you want.

Also, heated gloves usually have heating elements on the back of the gloves only so when it gets really cold out there the grips and gloves can work well together.

I have heated grips on both my bikes and love them. On both I got the Show Chrome ones: solid black on the little Suzuki, but Chrome and rubber on the 'Liner.

I CAN tell you, however, that the chrome ones DON'T get as hot as the solid black (plastic, rubbber) ones. The metal offers a lot more resistance to the heating element. Still, they're better than NOT having them. Just used them on the ride into work this morning, it's going to be 73 degrees in Chicago today!  :)  :thewave: :thewave:

Thanks for the input guys. I wonder if anyone has had any luck with the heat demon internal grip heaters. I'd love that setup but the reviews on revzilla (2 reviews) were dubious. It's hard for me to believe tho that a company would keep a product that was effectively useless.

For those show chrome grips Anthony, how clean does the final install look? I'd consider external heated grips if i can install them without a bunch of wires showing. I'm gonna internally wire my bars so don't won't to that just to have grip wires showing.

The Show Chromes can only be wired externally. The wires come out of the ends with a molded rubber boot, so would be pretty hard to do differently.

I read up on the Avons a while back and they are internally wired. A visit to their website says they're not currently shipping any, so you may be right about them discontinuing them.

Looks like there's still some available out there, though, from secondary sources.

I had the Avon's on my old Liner.  Yes they get warm, but would not stay on for long periods of time.  It was like they would heat to a certain temp, then would shut off.  You'd have to restart the grips for them to heat up again.  When it was cool out they were great.  When it was cold out and I broke out the cold weather gloves, I'd have to have them on high and then 20 minutes later they'd turn off.

Avon's are nice looking grips and very comfortable.  I sold my liner with 45,000 miles on it, and I was on my 3rd pair of comfort grips.  I do not feel like they last as long as they should.  They also are not weighted as much as the stock grips so you get a little vibration in the bars.

I've owned both BMW and Harley with heated grips, and they never kicked off and you can turn them up so high that they were too hot to hold after a period of time.  The Avon's never got that hot.

I loved them while I had them, but with my new bike and how they work I'd tell you if you are going to do it, I'd skip the Avon's.

I'm not totally useless.  I can be used as a bad example.

I have a set of Heat Demon grips I'm selling. They are for metric bikes up to 1 inch bars. Chrome button, goes under your current grip. Paid $150 for them but sold my bike before installing them. Asking $100
