Title: REMOVE FRONT OUTER FAIRING
Post by: kampcool on April 08, 2012, 01:54:34 am
This is how I removed my outer fairing (the second time, and knowing alot better), after my repairs.

Park your Deluxe on level ground (as we will be turning the forks (ALOT)).

If your Strat has the AfterMarket MP3 Cover  (as presented here by Grumpy)

https://www.stratolinerdeluxe.com/how-to%27s/how-to-install-ipod-cover-mount/ (https://www.stratolinerdeluxe.com/how-to%27s/how-to-install-ipod-cover-mount/) .............

OPEN YOUR DOOR!

"Gently" apply a leftward push on this gear...........

AND SHE WILL OPEN ALL THE WAY!!!!!!!!

If you have this cover, now it can be easily removed by (2 phillups), and feeding the apple cable thru the back.

Just 4 machine screws here, to remove the "band", and the band and shield come off together

YOUR FAIRING IS HANGING IN THE WIND.

CARNAGE SHOULD LOOK LIKE THIS MINUS ANY AFTER MARKET OR OEM SPECIAL STUFF FOR A 2010 STRATOLINER DELUXE.  THAT BEING DISCLAIMED, LOOK YOUR BIKE OVER, BEFORE YOU EVEN TRY TO MANIPULATE THE OUTTER FAIRING, TO ENSURE NOTHING WILL GET HUNG-UP AND BROKEN.

I.E (lighters, glove warmers, Television monitors (hell anything is possible))

NETTED ME THIS PHOTO, WITH THE FAIRING TOTALLY FREE, AND REMOVABLE. (Being just held at the headlight)

Dont be too scared away by the horror stories here.   If you want to upgrade your sound system-- its highly dooable.  Just go slow, and and dont force anything.   Weak areas are the tabs (and the (6) small allen head outer fairing screws).  Upon reinstallation, goto my fairing fiasco how to.

Me and this fairing are buds now.  All of this removal pictorial, was after my repairs.  Everything seems to be holding fine.

When my bike gets back from the dealership for the lifter issue, I will shoot some more stregthening mods on this outer fairing.  (or maybe sooner, since I kept my fairing and saddle bags)    Man that was a good call!

  Keep it posted here !

Thank you. I'm going to put a kuryakyn power point on soon, this should help me hid the wires.

Folks

Perhaps this has been mentioned but I discovered on my 14 deluxe that there is an additional fastener on the front of the fairing next to the headlight. A plastic grommet on either side that needs to be pushed out. See the pic.

Great write up kampcool! Photobucket kind of screwed up the picture part of your post but I'm hoping I can go off the verbal description in my attempt to remove the fairing this weekend, either way your tutorial was very helpful & at least I was able to read through once before the pictures disappeared due to photobucket  >:(
