Strat Quick release backrest hardware
« on: July 26, 2014, 01:31:46 pm »
Ok so i bought a quick release backrest and it didnt come with the mounting spacers so i built my own with no welding or fabricating needed and did it for about 5 $

Tools needed :

Washers from ace hardware

lol thats it.

The concept is so simple but it took me a while to think about. You are basically making a mount from washers.

I will include pics later but for now you need to find how many washers will mimic the stock spacer. then the concept is easy.

Now im no artist but the upper drawing is my design.
4 small washers (for spacer)
1 larger washer (act as a stop so the mount cant move or slide from side to side)
4 medium washers (to go into the quick release hole)
1 large washer (same as above)
4 small washers (spacer)

in that order from outside to inside on the bolt.

The lower drawing is of the stock quick disconect spacer and it just illustrates that i prety much copied the design just using washers.

The front of the quick release is easy. just remove the stock spacer from the bolt. slide the front of the quick release on and put 4 small spacers on the outside of the mount but inside the fender mount to secure it.

Any questions, pm me ! Thanks

Found something on McMaster-Carr the other day that will come in handy for situations like this (not quite as inexpensively as Twitch's solution, but not bad!) 5/16" has always worked for me for 8mm applications.

    Polypropylene cut-to-length spacer stock:

    Unthreaded Spacer Stock

    Gray Polypropylene
Cut this 12" long spacer stock to any length you need.

Polypropylene stock has an OD tolerance of ±0.015", ID tolerance of +0.03", and length tolerance of ±0.062".

    OD        ID          ScrewSize   Length                Each
    Polypropylene—Black
    0.448"   0.192"   No. 10        12"   92377A310   $4.44
    0.508"   0.252"   1/4"           12"   92377A120   4.69
    0.571"   0.315"   5/16"        12"   92377A130   4.91
    0.642"   0.380"   3/8"           12"   92377A140   5.38
    0.770"   0.505"   1/2"           12"   92377A150   5.64
    Polypropylene—Gray
    0.448"   0.192"   No. 10        12"   92377A100   4.44
    0.508"   0.252"   1/4"           12"   92377A200   4.69
    0.571"   0.315"   5/16"        12"   92377A300   4.91
    0.642"   0.380"   3/8"           12"   92377A400   5.38
