Liner a Bust?
« on: May 19, 2012, 11:55:55 AM »
All I can really say so far about this Liner is (?) not real sure its for me, being a long time RoadStar rider this beast sure is not the same bike, having some issues in dwn grade left twisties and the handle bars, even though I'm 6ft2 it feels like im reaching all the time. I'm headed back down 129 (the dragon) for another run going be really thinking about keeping her over the next few days. Maybe some time on her is all I really need, be back soon with a little report on the handling.

They are totally different bikes and yes it will take you some time to adjust.
The seat holds you further away from the bars as what I think everyone whould have liked but a different seat would be a good fix for that.  As far as bars go you can always swap them out to what you really like for you.  As far as power and handling, IMO Yamaha got it right.  I had a Raider and loved the power and the handling.  The Stratoliner Deluxe is a whole different feeling all together.  Once I adjusted to this bike, I love it just as much as the Raider just in different ways.  Make the bike your own and I think you will dig everything about your Liner.  If you need bars let me know.  I have contacts and I can get you a discount.  That goes for everybody.
Check out the Flanders handlebar website.  They have every style and I sure you will find something you like.
One of our members on this site works for LA Choppers and they also offer some great stuff for our bikes.
Options are always good brothers.  I like my bars but I'm going to buy a Danny Grey seat for my beast some for overall comfort and to have more of a bucket which allows for for back support.

+1 on the seat. I want one of their Airhawk models.  I've always liked drag bars but not sure I would find any I like that work with the fairing.   A 21" front wheel will happen one day, when I get a windfall and can afford it.

Coming from the 1100 Classic to the Strat D was night and day, and I'm just finally beginning to get used to it approx 3 and a half weeks in.  I'm out of the break-in period  :o and now I'm REALLY starting to see what this beast is capable of.  Had the one decent day out today that we're supposed to have for a week, so I took it out and put it through the paces.  Honestly, the one thing holding me down is good common sense, and after absolutely BLASTING past cars in front of me and going through some heavy switchbacks at speed around here, I'm glad I've still got some common sense.  The Strat D is one VERY powerful and VERY versatile machine.  I found myself today consciously astounded at the fact that I was able to pull some of that stuff off with a bagger.  I can only imagine what my buddy's Raider with the same engine we have will do.

The riding position and the wide bars are a tough adjustment.  I'm 6'3", and I enjoy the new riding position MUCH more, as does my back.  It also seems like the use of counter-steering is much simpler and much more effective to me thanks to the bars.  Not sure if I'd enjoy the handling so much with a different set.

I never thought to look to LA Choppers for Strat equipment, but I'm gonna go do that right now  ;D

Got my 2012 last week.  Awesome ride but I'm coming from a Honda.  I had difficulty with the stock handlebars when I test rode one so I ordered the optional cruiser bars.  HUGE difference for a short guy like me.

I did not like the wide bars when I got it and figured I would one day replace. Now I've gotten used to them I would like them to be an inch or two taller but other than that I think they are perfect and I can't imagine not having bars this wide.  Everything else just feels too narrow now.

Thks guys for the responce, went out for a 200 mile run, (two tanks of fuel) and this morning feeling much better about the bike. Going take time and aftermarket parts for this liner to replace my wife, but as they say "anythings possible", lol hey you guys think she (the bike sillys) will look better with a leather wrap around her tank lmao!

I have a tank bib as well and I really like the look and the protection it provides from my legs rubbing on the tank.

Hey Tat, glad to hear you are keeping the Strat D.  I think I would agree and try aftermarket parts to make the bike your own, like most of us here do constantly.  As for the replacing your wife comment, why? she won't wear the leather wrap??   :o

I want to change out my shift AND rear brake lever both!  Are you talking about the shifter connecting rod or the foot lever?
