Is that a Harley?
« on: July 29, 2015, 10:38:15 pm »
The other day I was parked at the local kwik stop and a lady pulls up and says 'Is that a Harley?'. I say no a Yamaha and she said my strat s was the only bike besides Harleys she has really liked. I had the windshield off, roadliner style, I really like that look also. She said she even named her son Harley. Have had a few incidents like this. Any good 'Is that a Harley' stories out there?

I get that and get people looking at the bike and ask, What kinda bike is that? We went to rally in Red Lodge MT 2 weeks ago. On our way back we stopped in a small town and were having a beer at a local pub. My other 2 buddies ride Road Kings. They are nice bikes. As we were having a beer a group of 6 bikers come in. They come over to our table and ask, Who has the bike out there that says BIGGNZ on the plate. I said right here. He said, What kinda bike is that? I said a Yamaha Strat. He says, Oh ok. We couldn't figure out what kind it was. That's a damn nice bike, he says.  Pissed my one buddy off who is die hard Harley. My wife and I laughed and gave him shoot the rest of ride. 8)

In the couple of years that I have been riding my Strat, I've had a few people ask 'is that a Harley'?

On one occasion, while enjoying the company of some friends (non-bikers), one of the girls asked me 'Is that a Harley?'  Before I could respond, one of my buddies (a non-biker) said 'you don't see a puddle of oil under it, do you?' ::)

On another occasion, while filling up at the gas station, some guy comes limping up to me, and ask what kind of bike it was.  I told him with great pride that 'It is a Yamaha Stratoliner'.   He seemed really impressed, and said he was looking into getting a new bike.  Then proceeded to tell me how he and his buddy just got new Harleys, and were riding together, when his buddy decided to get close and personal on the highway.  One thing led to another, now he was looking for a new bike.

This is an impressive bike.  I love it.   ;D

I have recently started part-time work at a bike repair shop, and I move the bikes around front when customers come for them, and pull them into the shop, when mechanics are ready for them... I have to say, none of the Harley's YET have the room or comfort of our Strats!  Seriously big guys get off these StreetGlides and I get on them to pull them around back and man they are cramped.  I don't see how these big guys can ride them comfortably?

I still get crap for the Jap bike, until I offer to "run 'em", then they shut up...

I like to throw in "1900", as in "it's a Stratoliner 1900", which always gets something like,
    "oh DAMN!"  "Who makes it?"
    "Yamaha"
    "Niiiice..."

A business representative from Belgium visited my place of business last week and my Roadliner was parked in the warehouse. He walked over to it and said " You Americans make the best motorcycles "

Just today comin back from lunch break....guy on a scooter with a trike kit (of all things!) pulls in our designated motorcycle parking area..comes over with a big cheesy smile and says 'nice Harley, what model?" I just answered 'Stratoliner'.  He goes 'yeah those're nice!'  I didn't bother correcting him.

I used to hang out in this place in Fayetteville, and let's just say that it was a place for real bikers, and not necessarily for folks who think 30 grand and 30 miles make them a biker.  So I'm standing at the bar having a few and talking with some regulars I know when in comes Joe Harley wearing just about every piece of clothing that the Motor Company has their stamp on, and says "Whos's black bike is that with the fairing out front?"  "Mine", says I.  "What kind of Harley is that?"  "You tell me, buddy.  You're the one wearing the T shirt".

Last week I stopped by my local HD dealer to pick up a part for my HD, but was riding my Liner. A few guys hanging out there were checking out my bike, the guy that sold me my HD walked out with me and said watch this. He walked up to those guys and said how do you like that Harley and they were all like man that is sweet, what model is that? He says well it's actually not a Harley it's a Yamaha and this guy built it that way. They were blown away, they kept me there for 30 minutes asking me all about it. One guy even said he wished Harley made a bike that big so he wouldn't be so cramped on it.

Buddy of mine and I, were out cruising a couple of weekends ago. He rides a Raider. Decided to stop for lunch at a BBQ joint, lots of bikes. Couple guys pulled in on VTXs, while walking by, one makes a comment  to us "these are some BIG Harleys"... Naturally, I quickly replied " it's not a Harley, it's Yamaha".
..." And this one?" ...he pointed at my buddy's Raider. "Also Yamaha"...I said.
The look on his face was priceless. He looked so confused. Gave us thumbs up and walked into the restaurant. Lol.

I pulled up next to a couple roadkings once at a restaurant parking lot and was surprised how small those bikes looked next to the c109 I was riding. The c is roughly the same size as a stratoliner. Did not think that would be as comfortable on road  trips as bigger bikes like the strat.
