As a dealer and rider of the Stratoliners (I have a Raider as well) my dealership has sold some 40 plus Stratoliners and to date (knock on wood) not one customer has lost third gear.   I am glad Yamaha is doing something to help Stratoliner riders and that they will continue to do so.  I talked with my service manager about this and he had heard nothing from Yamaha concerning the cause of this issue.  Have any of your dealers addressed what has caused it?  I know years ago on the XS1100 bike second gear went south once in a while but that was mainly due to those riders that would not hit the throttle hard in first gear but would bang the hell out of second.   Third gear seem a bit strange in this regard.  Good luck with the fix and if anyone needs help in Alabama or Tennessee I will be glad to go to bat for you with Yamaha.

There was a poll over on the Delphi 'Liner Forum a couple of years back.  13 out of 135 respondents reported failure of third gear.  Obviously, I cannot say that that figure (9.6% failure rate) is representative of the fleet.

I would ask you a question:  How many of those 40 'Liners sold were newer than 2010?

Sorry to hear that Turtleman, 3,300 is a lot of money. 2,800 is not cheap either.
