New to Yamaha Cruisers
« on: July 14, 2012, 04:41:52 pm »
I have been looking at buying a cruiser type bike for a few years.  Been bike less for 5 years.  Really liking Yamaha liners, been researching new (leftovers) and used.

My question is what is the difference between the roadliner and the stratoliner?  The general specs are identical.

Thanks.

The specs are identical because they are identical.

The Strat is basically a Roadliner with a windshield, saddlebags and sissy bar.  Other than that, the color options are different.

That's what I thought from reading yamaha's site.

Any recommendations on saddle bags, are there any aftermarkets better than the manufacture's?  I am interested in more space.

I would be buying in the Seattle area. Any dealer recommendations?  It appears the bast price for an 09 (road) is around 10k.

The largest bags are from Corbin.  They look good but are expensive and I keep hearing that Corbin has terrible customer service if there are any issues.

The factory bags are nice.  The bags that come with the normal Strat are covered in leather while the bags that come on the Strat Deluxe are a little bigger and are painted.

Tsukayu makes a set of bags for the 'Liner that use the factory mounts and are similar to the OEM bags but with a different design of lid and a different locking mechanism.

There are also several types of "generic" bags that will work fine on the Roadliner.  I wanted large capacity and wanted a little different look so I went with Tsukayu's "Jumbo Strong" bags.  Really nice bags but I would prefer a stronger mounting system.  They are only attached to the fender stays while the factory mounts are attached to the fender stays, to the passenger footpegs and with a cross support at the rear.

If you decide to get the OEM bags then you might want to consider getting a Strat rather than a Roadliner simply because the locks on the bags are keyed the same as the ignition which is sorta convenient.

IMO the Deluxe bags are the best looking bags period.
Great shape and they have more room then most.

I really like the look of the lockable hard bags from Tsukayu (http://www.tsukayu.com/HardbagsforRoadliner.html). Here they are on my 'Liner:

They are a bit smaller than the Deluxe bags but come fully lined, and they fit the Deluxe bag mount hardware.

As far as buying is the Seattle area, I purchased my 'Liner from Ride Motorsports in Woodinville. Another good place is Adventure Motorsports in Monroe.

    Wow nice bike RedRoadie.
For not being factory bags I think those look killer.
IMO better looking then the Corbin hardbags.

I have a set of leather strato bags for sale. $650 + shipping. Also have the quick detach windshield for sale too if you decided to go with a roadliner. May be an option for you if there is a left over for the right price. Let me know if you would be interested. I put the deluxe fairing on my 09 Strato

I love this site, everytime I see pictures, i change my mind on what I want to do. REd Rodie i really like the looks of your bike, and if i stay on with the plan i set out to do our bikes would look exactlly alike. However i really like the pipes on Roadraiders bike, those are killer, now if i could just hear them. LOL.
